It was all resources this morning, with the Miners bolting out of the gate. FMG, NCM, BHP, RIO were all up strongly on the open, although most other sectors started out that way too. Many of the other sectors fell away after the initial surge, with only the Materials, Energy and Industrial sectors able to record gains at the end of the session. Staples were the worst performer, athough there is an adjustment for stocks going ex, particularly WOW (their ex dividend was responsible for -2.97 points from the All Ords).

The main economic news for the day was the Chinese Trade Balance. The number came in at 26.7b (Surplus - USD) Exports grew at 2.7% yoy and Imports were down 2.6%, when they were expected to rise 3.5%.

This was also the first trading day since the NFP number on Friday, with the low number sparking new speculation that the FED would implement QE3 sooner rather than later.

The market was also digesting the announcement out of China that they would embark on $157b worth of new infrastructure spending. This news is seen as the primary driver of the resources sector outperformance today, in anticipation of increased Chinese stimulus.

AUD is buying $1.0347 UDS, (Down $0.005), Gold is at $1734 USD, (Down $1), and WTI OIL is at $96.40, (Down $0.65).

No Major economic data is due tonight, but the US Trade Balance will be out tomorrow night.

Dow Jones futures are currently down 23 points.
